Celebrating 189 Years

Our History
The First African Baptist Church is the oldest African-American church in McIntosh County. The church was destroyed when most of the buildings in Darien were torched during the Civil War; however, it was rebuilt. The church was erected in 1868 as a replica of the 1834 church that once stood on this site. Today we say our church sits on pillars of WELCOME and the doors swings on the hinges of WELCOME. We invite you to come and worship with us in this historic holy edifice at anytime. The church is located on Market Street.
